APSCE Excellence Scholarship Award (ESA) 2025

Introduction

The Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education (APSCE) has provided financial aid and scholarships through the APSCE Merit Scholarship Award (MSA) from 2007 to 2023 and the current APSCE Excellence Scholarship Award (ESA) since 2024. This award serves to advance the mission of fostering and sustaining a vibrant community of young researchers within the region — a key objective of the Society. It has also aligned closely with an overarching goal of acknowledging and encouraging academic excellence, while ensuring an inclusive recognition of outstanding students. Since the award’s inception, the APSCE has supported more than 100 promising young leaders within the student community to participate in ICCE.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

1. The award is open to graduate students (Masters and Doctoral students) who will be attending ICCE2025. Graduate students who have graduated with a Master’s degree (within the past 12 months) and are waiting to enroll in a PhD program may also be considered.

2. Applicants must be both the presenter and author of at least one accepted paper at ICCE2025. Internal consideration will be given to papers that receive more favorable reviewer ratings (i.e., “inclined to accept” or “definitely accept”), with stronger-rated submissions having a higher likelihood of success. These ratings will not be publicly disclosed.

Selection Criteria

The ESA will prioritize applicants based on the following criteria, listed in descending order of preference:

1. The applicant’s paper(s) are recommended by the paper review panel for Best Student Paper Award/Best Overall Paper Award/Best Technical Paper Award.

2. Applicant’s paper(s) that are accepted in the theme-based main conference (either Full or Short papers) will be given higher priority. Papers that are accepted in other categories (e.g., posters in theme-based main conference) and other programs (i.e., workshops, DSC, WIPP, ES, and SATELUC) will still be accepted but with consideration of reviewer comments and ratings.

3. Applicants who have made contributions to the research community or have participated in prior ICCE(s).

4. Students’ financial circumstances will be considered during the final selection process, especially when there is a strong pool of applicants.

5. Applicants who have not previously received subsidized support through APSCE for attending past ICCEs will also be considered favorably.
